All Shoestring hosting accounts have SpamAssassin enabled by default. SpamAssassin assigns each email a score and, if that score exceeds the established threshhold, tags the subject line with unique characters. The user can then configure a mail rule in her email program to move tagged messages to a Junkmail folder for later review.

Major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like AT&T/Bellsouth and Comcast continue to tighten the rules on email delivery in response to Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE) and spam. ISPs use many different methods to minimize junkmail and will even block mail from other servers when the percentage of unwanted email reaches a predetermined level.
We have launched a new HelpDesk to accept and track support requests from our hosting and site maintenance clients. It can be found at www.shoestringwebs.com/helpdesk/ and is also linked in the right-hand column of this site.
Current Shoestring clients are encouraged to submit all future requests for service through the Help Desk.
Several Shoestring-hosted web sites were unavailable for approximately four hours beginning at 8 pm ET on 4/8/08. The outage affected only PHP-based sites including blogs, discussion forums and content management systems. Other services (email) and non-PHP sites were not affected except during server restarts, which generally last just a couple of minutes. A minor server software upgrade failed to complete successfully, causing the partial outage.
On 4/9/08 PM and early on 4/10/08 during additional updates, several warning messages were generated regarding bandwidth and disk space limits. Those warnings were generated in error and should be ignored.
